Web2 Voicethread Success !!!

Spent a very productive 1.5 hours with my focus group today and we annotated and explored an Unseen Poem , using Voice Thread. I was very impressed with how the students all completed the exercise and posted their work around the page 2 template with no problems at all....I feel we can now take the process a lot further and develop this small step into collaborative online "real time "to the next level. The process was aided by the fact that we had access to the computer suite and connectivity was not an issue to contend with. A survey of the students attitudes to this form of learning was that 95% felt it was far more engaging and easier to relate to.....this pleased me immensely as its been a few weeks now since we started what I thought would be a difficult transition from pen to pad....success at last. Next week I will extend the process by using voice responses to the Literacy Tasks I set . The work was exam related and very much targeted at Literaure Skills, however Voic Thread can be applied to many facets of the Curriculum and provideds a very engaging method for learners to lead their own learning while sharing knowledge and ideas around set topics. I firmly believe the "pedagogy" of "analytical skills" was fully utalised today.

Teach Meet Newcastle .December 8th

#TMNE10

Please support the meeting if you can.

Using the Ipad to record Speaking and Listening Assignments.

I used Audio Note today to record and annotate my pupils working on Entry Level Tasks for AQA syllabus. Pupils enjoyed the playback facility. It allowed a greater awareness and a higher level of participation by the pupils who find Literacy challenging. The App is free and has much potential within Literacy Development. Clips can be stored as sound bites and later used to evidence grades. Another very useful IPad Application. I will present a synopsis of the application at the Newcastle Teach Meet on the 8th of December, in conjunction with Annotating a shared Google Doc Poetry Analysis Task.

Poetry and Google shared Docs. Web2. Online Learning , together.

This link is for the class task we have worked on, allows all pupils to add and make annotations, online, to the poem we are studying. http://tiny.com/378axxp

Web 2- second lesson today...Academy 360

Setup another Web2 lesson using Google Docs today with my focus group. Room F17, slightly better connectivity. But still problems with some machines logging onto the school network..98% success rate today, up on last lesson but not perfect. Two pupils had to return to Paper Tasks. Could not access school network at all.
Multiple logins on Hub Site, there were no problems today, pupils posted work back onto the site after working on the Google Doc. Google Docs did not format the text as I would have liked it to display, so will rectify this issue tonight...perhaps I just need more time on the Application to solve these little issues. Big plus was the workin ethos and overall work return which was up on last lesson...guess its just a question of practice and embedding the components into the lessons , continuously. Next Monday will try a full lesson with Voice Thread and allow the students time to settle into this new Application. Finally a lesson with both components used in one session....3 weeks time , holding thumbs....
Would be a lot easier if the mobile trolleys were located in our Dept as this is an issue as they have to take a journey of some magnanimous proportions to be collected and returned.....time? And who watches the class while they are returned? Logistics, again.I fear.

Progress and Update

Web2 was successful on Friday in theory and practice with my focus group, working on collaborative projects and tasks. Downside was login times and connectivity via the network which hindered some of the students to a degree allowing some to shoot ahead and others left behind....all the laptops were not the same in terms of software which meant some basic word processor elements were not present for writing and typing up the assignment details. But , on the whole I was pleased that the lesson worked in terms of reaching the objectives set. Next week will tackle Voice Thread applications in a shared forum....

Progress and Update - The Site Grows !!

Our Department Site  now has 27 members and its growing...I have been upgrading and working on bits of it all week....some of the pupils are now using the site for their homework submissions which is great....progress!! I have also revised the menu list to make this more user friendly
I have responded to their assignments on line which has been successful. A few pupils have used the site via their mobiles..which is what my objective was all about so I am pleased at this development....laptops are now available in some areasof the Academy which is good news all round...I am hoping to test run a few applications of the site with pupils this week to have them versed in the basics of online submission and application in terms of my subject. HOD is fully behind project and has intimated that it might become our sole dissemination tool for Curriculum Information and Lesson Plans etc. A few other teachers in the Department have also uploaded Assignments to be completed by mobile web browsers. I think the future looks a lot brighter today and I am looking forward to the next few months where more pupils and teachers will engage with the project which should become a permanent feature within the Academy and into the future. I do believe we have to get this "right" to be at the cutting edge of ICT and Modern Learning Systems into the 21st century. I see the site as developing very needed ICT skills for well beyond the school and secondary application.

nearly there...

Site is growing daily...added some video clips, photos of the classrooms and more curriculum information. Also linking Google Docs to home work assignments.....will need more pupils logged and online as members for the lesson observation...getting worried as aptops still being upgraded        etc....:(    holding thumbs though....have been teaching the pupils about th site and mobile applications....so maybe by the 1st we will be ready for "true online web2 assignment......"
